The 5th and 6th Sessions of the Chamber of Deputies during the 10th Parliamentary Term took place for eight days in January, along with meetings of committees and commissions.
Government wins vote of confidence in the Chamber of Deputies
The Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic expressed its confidence in the Government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The motion was supported by 108 deputies out of a total of 199 present, while 91 deputies voted against.
The Government thus secured the confidence of the lower house of Parliament and may continue to exercise its mandate.
Speaker hosts Chilean parliamentary delegation
On 19 January 2026, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura received the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile José Miguel Castro Bascuñán.
Mr Castro Bascuñán led a delegation on a working visit to the Czech Republic during which the talks focused on bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
Annual meeting with the diplomatic corps
On the same day, the traditional annual meeting of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies with the diplomatic corps also took place.
During the meeting, Speaker Tomio Okamura thanked foreign representatives for their cooperation and discussed the priorities of foreign policy for the current year.
Czech Delegation Participates in PACE Plenary Session in Strasbourg
Czech representatives took part in the first part of the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which was held in Strasbourg. The main topics of debate included the situation around Greenland and human rights in the Middle East.
The Czech Republic was represented by members of the permanent parliamentary delegation to PACE, Deputies Irena Ferčíková Konečná and Petr Sokol.
Interpretation into Czech Sign Language
Starting 13 January, the Tuesday press conferences of the parliamentary groups held before the regular sittings of the Chamber of Deputies will be interpreted into Czech Sign Language.
The Office of the Chamber of Deputies is introducing this new service as part of its efforts to improve services for the public. In addition to written transcripts of the press conferences, interpretation will now also be provided for citizens with hearing impairments who prefer to communicate in Czech Sign Language.
