Parliamentary Affairs
In June, during its 10th electoral term, the Chamber of Deputies held a total of 10 sitting days within its 17th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th sessions.
During the month, Members of Parliament continued the 17th and 20th sessions and opened the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th sessions. The Chamber elected Barbora Urbanová as Deputy Speaker, completing the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies alongside Speaker Tomio Okamura and Deputy Speakers Patrik Nacher, Jiří Barták and Jan Skopeček.
Two new Members of Parliament also took the constitutional oath of office. On 2 June, Libor Forman assumed his mandate, replacing Karel Beran, while on 23 June Jiří Kotlík became a Member of Parliament following the appointment of Josef Kott to the Supreme Audit Office.
Institutional and Public Events
Oath of Office of the Public Defender of Rights and Members of the Supreme Audit Office
On 18 June 2026, the newly elected Public Defender of Rights Eva Kostolanská took the oath of office before Speaker Tomio Okamura and formally assumed her position. The oath of office was also taken by newly elected Members of the Supreme Audit Office Josef Kott and Radovan Suchánek.
Ceremonial Presentation of Municipal Symbols
On 22 June 2026, the Chamber of Deputies hosted a ceremonial presentation of coats of arms and flags to municipalities of the Czech Republic. The decrees were presented by Speaker Tomio Okamura during a formal ceremony held at the Chamber of Deputies.
Armed Forces Day of the Czech Republic
On 30 June 2026, representatives of the Chamber of Deputies attended the Czech Armed Forces Day ceremony held at the National Memorial on Vítkov. The event included the ceremonial transfer of the battle flag of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic from General Karel Řehka to his successor, Lieutenant General Miroslav Hlaváč, carried out by Minister of Defence Jaromír Zůna. The Chamber of Deputies was represented by Deputy Speaker Jiří Barták, the leadership of the Committee on Defence and the Committee on Security, and other Members of Parliament.
Interparliamentary Diplomacy
Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic visits the Chamber
On 16 June 2026, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura welcomed the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Richard Raši who paid an official visit to the Czech Republic together with his delegation. The meeting focused on Czech-Slovak relations and opportunities to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation. During the visit, both Speakers signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the Czech-Slovak Mutual Understanding Award. The programme also included commemorative ceremonies at the National Memorial on Vítkov and the National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror.
Visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova
On 23 June 2026, Speaker Tomio Okamura received the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Igor Grosu at the Chamber of Deputies. The meeting, attended by delegations from both countries, confirmed the shared interest in maintaining close parliamentary relations. During his visit, Speaker Grosu also met with MP Irena Ferčíková Konečná, Chair of the Czech Republic–Moldova Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
NATO Parliamentary Summit – Istanbul
On 28–29 June 2026, Speaker Tomio Okamura led a parliamentary delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Summit in Istanbul. The programme included plenary meetings, official receptions and bilateral discussions. During the visit, the delegation also visited the Bayraktar National Technology Centre.
Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians – Belgrade
On 1–4 June 2026, MP Zuzana Majerová, Head of the Czech Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, participated in the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians in Belgrade. Organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the National Assembly of Serbia, the conference focused on gender equality, combating stereotypes, online violence against women in politics and the exchange of good practices.
Interparliamentary Committee Meeting on Culture and Education
On 3 June 2026, MP Jan Berki participated in the interparliamentary committee meeting organized by the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) in Brussels. Discussions focused on the future financing and development of the Creative Europe, AgoraEU, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes.
OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Election Observation Mission – Armenia
On 4–8 June 2026, MPs Michal Ratiborský, Karel Dvořák and Jan Richter participated in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly election observation mission during the parliamentary elections in Armenia. Following preparatory briefings in Yerevan, the delegation observed voting procedures in Yerevan, Sevan and Armavir.
Visit of the United for Ukraine Parliamentary Group
On 4 June 2026, the Chamber of Deputies welcomed the international parliamentary initiative United for Ukraine led by Lithuanian MP Žygimantas Pavilionis. The delegation met with members of the Committee on European Affairs, the Foreign Affairs Committee, Deputy Speaker Jan Skopeček and members of the Czech Republic–Ukraine Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
Committee on Security Visits Italy
On 10–12 June 2026, a delegation of the Committee on Security visited Italy. Meetings were held with members of the Italian Parliament, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and members of the Czech community. The programme also included a commemorative ceremony honouring Czechoslovak legionnaire Jan Čaloun. The delegation was composed of Committee Chair Jana Černochová and MP Samuel Volpe.
Control Committee and Petitions Committee Visit Slovakia
On 10–11 June 2026, a delegation of the Control Committee visited Slovakia for meetings with the relevant parliamentary committee and representatives of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic. The discussions addressed parliamentary oversight and cooperation between supreme audit institutions.
Also on 10–11 June 2026, a delegation of the Petitions Committee visited Bratislava for meetings with its counterpart in the National Council of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Public Defender of Rights. Discussions focused on cross-border cooperation and the role of ombudsman institutions.
Visit of the French Senate Friendship Group
On 12 June 2026, Deputy Speaker Jiří Barták received a delegation of the France–Czech Republic Friendship Group of the French Senate, headed by Bernard Buis. The delegation also met with MP Eva Decroix, Chair of the Czech Republic–France Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative – Katowice
On 15–17 June 2026, MP Věra Kovářová, Head of the Czech Delegation to the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative, participated in a meeting of its Cultural Committee in Katowice. The discussions focused on the revitalisation of post-industrial regions and included visits to successful redevelopment projects in the Polish Silesian region.
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe – Strasbourg
On 22–24 June 2026, MP Irena Ferčíková Konečná participated in the third part-session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. During the plenary debates, she addressed the issue of eliminating gender stereotypes in the media.
Meeting of V4 Committee Chairs – Tata
On 29–30 June 2026, Radek Vondráček, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Petr Sokol, Chair of the Committee on European Affairs, participated in the meeting of the Chairs of Foreign Affairs Committees and European Affairs Committees of the Visegrad Group parliaments, held in Tata under the Hungarian Presidency of the V4.
